A Wayland firefighter will spend the night in the burn unit at Massachusetts General Hospital and a Wayland woman has been arrested on charges she threw hot oil in the firefighter’s face. Wayland Fire Chief Vinnie Smith said in a press release that the firefighter, whose name was released by the department, does not appear to have life-threatening injuries, but will be evaluated by an eye and ear specialist after at least one night in the hospital.

A Wayland firefighter is in fair condition with second-degree burns to his face after authorities said an elderly woman threw a frying pan full of hot oil into his face on Tuesday. Rita Warren, 72, was arrested at 12:20 p.m. after she threw the oil into firefighter Dean Casali’s face. Casali was among those going to Warren’s 1 King St. apartment to check on her well-being. Casali was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with burns to his face and eyes, where he remained as of last night, a hospital spokesman said.
