The School Committee approved the largest school budget in over a decade on Monday night after a sparsely attended public hearing in which School Committee Chairwoman Barb Fletcher delineated the major financial drivers in preparing to educate an estimated 2,695 students in the 2014-15 school year. The fiscal 2015 operating budget of $35.43 million is a 6.1 percent increase over the previous fiscal year. Over the past five years, the average annual increase of the schools’ operating budget has been approximately 2.6 percent using actual expenditures of prior years.
