Pegasus for Kindergarteners

pegasusPegasus programming for children entering kindergarten in the fall can serve as a bridge between the preschool years and the school-age experience. Tailored to the developmental needs of children making a transition, the summer program offered by the Wayland Public Schools gives young children the chance to ride a school bus on a field trip, attend a program in a public school setting, and, perhaps equally important, meet other children starting kindergarten in the fall.

There are two three-week sessions, and flexible scheduling is offered. The preschool and entering kindergarten age groups may enroll for a minimum of three days, 9 am to 1 pm, for a total of 12 hours per week. Extended hours are available from 8 am until 5:30 pm.

Along with a rich curriculum, enrichment activities are led by Area Specialists, who develop programming for the school-age component. Kindergarteners enjoy music and movement, arts and crafts, science, games, technology, culinary arts, and more. Children learn how to transition into special activities, similar to a kindergarten school day program.

There is a field trip each session. During Session One on July 9th, kindergarteners will join Grades 1 -5 children for an all day field trip to Southwick’s Zoo in Mendon. During Session Two on July 30, children will participate in a recreational program designed just for kindergarteners at Teamworks in Acton.

An optional 1 pm to 3 pm session features recreational swimming at the Wayland Community Pool. Staff is in the water with the children and certified lifeguards are on duty. Pegasus provides all children with safety vests.
