Annual 5K Run/Walk, Sept. 21, Benefits Wayland’s Dudley Pond Association
18th Annual Event Is Open to all Runners and Walkers, Adults and Kids; USATF-Sanctioned

WAYLAND, Mass.—The 18th annual Dudley Pond Run will be held Sunday, September 21, 2014. Proceeds benefit the Dudley Pond Association’s efforts to preserve the quality of Dudley Pond and fight invasive pondweeds.

There are four events for all ages: a 5-kilometer race sanctioned by USA Track & Field, a 2-mile competitive walk, a kids’ race, and a noncompetitive fitness walk.

Sylvia Greene of Passion to Move will lead the noncompetitive fitness walk starting at 10:30 a.m., followed by the kids’ fun run at 12:30 p.m., and the 5-kilometer race and the 2-mile competitive walk at 1:00 p.m.

With advance registration the fee is $6 per child and $20 per adult. On race day, the fee is $8 for kids, $25 for adults.

The first 50 registered adult runners and walkers will receive an official race T-shirt. The race will be held rain or shine.

The race begins at Mansion Beach, located at Mansion Road and Lakeshore Drive, near Route 126 and West Plain Street, in Wayland, Mass. The event will loop around the pond with a short hilly route through the residential area.

Post-race festivities include complimentary refreshments. A raffle for valuable sports-related and other prizes will also be held. Raffle tickets can be purchased in advance or the day of the event.

The Dudley Pond Association (www.dudleypond.org) is a nonprofit organization in Wayland.

Its goal is to preserve the present and future well being of the natural and beautiful 84-acre pond, designated as a great pond by the state, for fishing, canoeing and other light recreation. Pond usage is open to all state residents.
