Looking for some local laughs? Come to Comedy Night at Wayland High School on Friday, October 3, at 7:00 p.m. This popular annual fundraiser features professional comedians (and a home-grown surprise) as well as the opportunity to bid for student-athletes’ time to help with chores or projects. Proceeds benefit two charities as well as the Wayland High School boys soccer program.
Two comedians with regional roots, as well as one of Wayland High School’s own students, are featured in this year’s show. Brad Mastrangelo is a masterful storyteller who tickles the funny bones of audiences of all ages. Described as “hysterical, likeable, and most importantly, clean,” Mastrangelo travels the comedy circuit with comedians such as Lenny Clark, Ray Romano, Denis Leary and Pat Cooper. He is back at the WHS Comedy Night by popular demand.
Artie Januario is the area’s funniest pharmacist. When he’s not helping customers with their medications, he’s performing at local comedy clubs where he is a popular headliner. He also performs regularly in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Januario is described as “hilarious and a class act.”
And the night will also feature the stand-up comedy debut of sophomore Drew O’Regan, a member of the varsity soccer team.
After the comedians perform, the members of the boys varsity soccer team will participate in a service auction, offering their time and talent to the highest bidder. This is a popular opportunity for Waylanders to get help with a project around the house or around town.
Proceeds from Comedy Night will benefit the Dana Farber Institute’s Kicks for Cancer Fund; Out of the Darkness, a program of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention; and the Wayland High School boys soccer program.
Tickets, $20 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, are available at Donelan’s Supermarket, Russell’s Garden Center, and at the door.
