Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable Shower for Shelters

domestic violence thumbnailSpring brings the promise of renewal and new beginnings. The Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable will hold its annual Shower for Shelters from Sunday, April 25 through Monday May 11. Donations of new unwrapped gifts may be dropped off at Goodnow Library in Sudbury, The Wayland Public Library, and the Lincoln Public Library.

Families leaving an abusive relationship typically arrive at shelters with no money, nowhere to live, and just the clothes on their backs. They lack life’s basic necessities, and parents must provide for themselves and their children. It is important that the families in shelter realize they have the care and support of the community as they take the steps to rebuild their lives free of abuse. Providing the items that the women and children desperately need sends a powerful message of caring and provides them with much needed support and encouragement as they rebuild their lives.

Each spring the Roundtable invites members of our local communities to join us in providing items needed by the families served by REACH Beyond Domestic Violence, The Second Step, and Voices Against Violence as they transition from shelter to new homes. A list of needed items appears on the Roundtable website www.domesticviolenceroundtable.org. Each library also has a complete list of needed items. Some of the items include new twin sheets, pillows, towels, twin blankets, twin comforter sets, kitchen items like pots and pans, small appliances, dish towels, glasses, flatware, and household cleaners. Gift cards to CVS, Market Basket, Stop and Shop, etc. are also welcome.  A complete list is also included at the end of this announcement.

The Roundtable meets monthly from September to May at 3 PM in the Community Meeting Room of the Wayland Public Safety Building located at 38 Cochituate Road in Wayland Center. Anyone interested in learning more about the Roundtable activities or volunteer opportunities are welcome to attend the meetings.
