Storm Updates (latest update Saturday (9:25am)

Latest on the storm:

2/6/16 9:25am update from the Wayland Police:

  • Power Outages – Currently, Eversource reports that 840 residences in Wayland are without power or 15% of the town.  Eversource is working to restore power and has set a goal of midnight tonight to have all power restored in Wayland. Please Do Not Contact Wayland Dispatch Regarding Power Outages.
  • Road Closures – Route #30 at Lakeview Cemetery is still closed due to tree and wires down but is expected to be opened by noon., Alden Road at Cabot Road is still closed for tree and wires down, Pemberton Road closed due to trees and wires down but is expected to be open by noon,, Holbrook Road closed due to wires down.  Other roads have tree obstructions but remain open.
  • Public Safety – Residents are asked not to walk in the roadway.  Do not touch down wires as they may be live.  Use care when shoveling as this is a heavy wet snow. There have been numerous incidents of large limbs falling from trees due to the heavy weight of the snow.  Please do not allow your children to play in areas where there are large tree limbs overhead.
  • Warming Center/Cellphone Charge – Due to the extensive power outages throughout Wayland, residents may come to the Community Room at the Wayland Public Safety Building to keep warm or to charge cellphones.  The warming center will remain open until all power is restored in town.

2/6/16 7am update from the Wayland Police:

  •  Route 30 remains closed from Route 27 to Speen St. (as of 2/6 6:30am)
  • On Stonebridge Road there is a small detour.
  • Pemberton Road is closed at Harrison to Route 30 due to wires.
  • Rice Road has a tree down at the church of Holy Spirit.

Eversource continues to work on the issues but there are still approximately 775 customers without power.

Again we ask that you contact Eversource directly with outage concerns. We will continue to keep the heating station open so people my charge phones or any other necessary items.

2/5/15 3pm update from the Wayland Police:

  • Power Outages – Currently, Eversource reports that 4,191 residences in Wayland are without power or 76% of the town (Note: outage map online here).  Several intersections do not have traffic signals working because of power outages.  These include Route #20/ Route #27/126, Route #30/Route #27, Route #126/Route#27 (at Wayland Public Library).  Please Do Not Contact Wayland Dispatch Regarding Power Outages.   The police department does not know when power will be back and the calls flooding dispatch are hampering operations.
  • Road Closures – Route #30 at Lakeview Cemetery is closed due to tree and wires down, Alden Road at Cabot Road for tree and wires down, Pemberton Road closed due to trees and wires down, Concord Road at #160 closed due to wires down, Route #27 (Cochituate Road) closed at St. Anne’s Church – tree down, Holbrook Road closed due to wires down.  .Other roads have tree obstructions but remain open.
  • Schools – Wayland Public Schools have regular dismissal.  Loker School students have been moved to Wayland High School due to a power outage.  Parents may begin picking up their children one and a half hours prior to normal dismissal.
  • Public Safety – Residents are asked not to walk in the roadway.  Do not touch down wires as they may be live.  Use care when shoveling as this is a heavy wet snow. Please stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.  Police have responded to numerous motor vehicle accidents.
  • Warming Center/Cellphone Charge – Due to the extensive power outages throughout Wayland, residents may come to the Community Room at the Wayland Public Safety Building to keep warm or to charge cellphones.

 

1:55pm From the Wayland Police:

Currently Eversource reports that 1,922 residences in Wayland are without power or 35% of the town.  Several intersections do not have traffic signals working because of power outages.  These include Route #20/ Route #27/126, Route #30/Route #27, Route #126/Route#27 (at Wayland Public Library).

Road Closures – Route #30 at Lakeview Cemetery is closed due to tree and wires down, Alden Road at Cabot Road for tree and wires down, 149 Rice Road for wires down.  Other roads have tree obstructions but remain open.

Schools – Wayland Public Schools have regular dismissal.  Loker School students have been moved to Wayland High School due to a power outage.  Parents may begin picking up their children one and a half hours prior to normal dismissal.

    All after school activities have been cancelled, including BASE

  • Power is out in 33% of Wayland residences (as of 12:45pm) (Eversource outage map online here)
  • Wayland DPW reports: The heavy wet snow has caused many trees and branches to come down throughout Town. Please report any downed trees or branches to the Police Department at 508-358-4721.
  • Route 30 is blocked by fallen trees and power lines.  There is no access on 30 westbound from 27, except to enter post office or Starbucks due to a fallen power line across the road just west of the intersection. There is no access to route 30 in either direction for a stretch of road between 27 and Pemberton. There is a pole down and utilities workers present on 30 near Pemberton.  (Thank you to Kim Campana for the details!)
