Police report serious Motor Vehicle Accident on Rice Rd

At 10:08am on May 6th, 2016, Wayland Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Rice Road near Covered Bridge Lane. Officers determined that a vehicle, traveling northbound, had lost control and exited the roadway striking a tree.

The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle, an 84 year old Wayland man, sustained serious injuries and was transported by the Wayland Fire Department ambulance to Cochituate Ballfield. He was then transferred to a LifeFlight helicopter that brought him to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Rice Road has been closed at Covered Bridge Lane as the accident is investigated by the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team along with Wayland Police’s Accident Reconstruction Expert, Officer Mark Wilkins. No determination as to the cause of the accident has been made at this time.

The name of the driver of the vehicle is being withheld, pending notification to family members. Rice Road is expected to be closed for several hours.
