SUMMER READING SUCCESS!
On August 18 kids gathered at the library for an ice cream social to celebrate their summer reading. We were celebrating the fact that 292 kids read at least 1,480 books this summer. Great reading, kids…and the summer isn’t even over!

VOLUNTEER COMPUTER PROGRAMMERS NEEDED
Are you passionate about getting teen girls coding? We are launching a Wayland branch of the national “Girls Who Code” club and are seeking volunteer instructors. If you are interested and have basic computer programming skills, apply online at girlswhocode.com/volunteer and choose Wayland Public Library as your site. Questions? Contact Librarian Pam McCuen (pmccuen@minlib.net or 508-358-2308).

ENGLISH CONVERSATION GROUP
Do you know someone who is learning basic English? The library is starting an English conversation group for beginning and advanced beginning English speakers. This group is ideal for people who want to practice their English and learn about American culture. We will meet two Fridays each month from 10:30-11:30 a.m. The first two sessions will be on September 9 and 30. Also, English-language learners at any level can apply for a free, one-on-one, English-language tutor. Applications are available at the adult circulation desk.

PlentyCLEAN EATING BOOK CLUB
Explore clean eating approaches potluck style! Participants make a recipe from a selected cookbook to share. Our next meeting is on Thursday, September 8, 6-7:30 p.m. and we will be cooking from “Plenty: Vibrant Vegetable Recipes from London’s Ottolenghi” by Yotam Ottolenghi. While enjoying our homemade delights, we’ll discuss the book, its author, and what each has to offer. For more information contact Sarah Hogan at shogan@minlib.net or Rachel Sideman-Kurtz at rsideman@minlib.net.

ARMCHAIR TRAVEL BOOK CLUB
Our next selection is “Round Ireland with a Fridge” by Tony Hawks. Have you ever made a drunken bet? Worse, still, have you ever tried to win one? In attempting to hitchhike round Ireland with a fridge, Tony Hawks did both and his foolhardiness led him to one of the best experiences of his life. Joined by his trusty traveling companion-cum-domestic appliance, he found himself in the midst of a remarkable adventure, at times emotional, at times inspirational, but more often than not, downright silly. Only in the magical land of Ireland could such a notion lead to such fruitful adventure. Come talk about this great story on Wednesday. September 14, at
11:30 a.m. with Librarian Rachel Sideman-Kurtz.

Juliette is a resident of Wayland and author of several popular books, and this is her first foray into historical fiction. Juliette will reprise her spring presentation of “The Tumbling Turner Sisters” at the Council on Aging, on Tuesday, August 16, at 1:30 p.m. All are welcome to learn the fascinating history she uncovered in her research while writing the book.
