Wayland Little League Baseball National Tournament Team Update

As the Little League World Series comes to an end (Endwell, New York, won the recent title game 2-1 over South Korea), we would like to recognize Wayland Little League’s first ever Williamsport Tournament Team that competed this summer in the Mass district regional tournament.  Wayland Little League Baseball and Softball, which affiliated with Little League International (the largest youth sports organization in the world) just this season, selected players from its Majors Division (grades 5 & 6) to represent the league in this year’s district tournament against Lexington, Wakefield, Weston, Acton, and Assabet Valley.

Unfortunately, while you did not see Wayland on ESPN competing for the world championship, we are proud with the way each player represented our league, demonstrated strong character, and improved with each game against some very strong competition.  The very young team, which was made up of largely 5th graders, was also recognized by Massachusetts League Officials and was awarded a trip to a Paw Sox game in August for how well they conducted themselves on the field in its first season in terms of sportsmanship.

Wayland Little League, which enjoyed record numbers of participation in its K-2 program and increasing registrations overall for baseball and softball programs this season, looks forward to building upon this year’s positive experience for many years to come.  Please take a look at our website to learn more about our ongoing baseball and softball options throughout the year (www.waylandlittleleague.org).
