Free Film Screening: Defying the Nazis: The Sharps’ War, September 30

defyingthenazis“Defying the Nazis” is a new PBS documentary directed by Ken Burns and Artemis Joukowsky. It tells the story of Waitstill and Martha Sharp, a Unitarian minister and his wife from Wellesley, who committed to multiple life-threatening missions in Europe leading up to World War II. Over two dangerous years they helped to save hundreds of imperiled political dissidents and Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazi occupation across Europe. (The film was prominently featured in a recent Boston Globe article.)

Join us in the Vestry at First Parish in Wayland (50 Cochituate Rd.) on Friday, September 30 for a free screening of the film. Everyone is welcome. If you would like to join in a potluck supper, bring a dish to share at 6 p.m. If you prefer to simply view the film, it will run from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. A discussion will follow.
