Sudbury Valley Trustees Offering Outdoor Programs for Families

Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) is offering a number of opportunities for families with children to connect with nature this spring.

During SVT’s “Wildlife Week” in March, SVT’s Emily Anderson and Katie Nathenson, of Assabet River NWR lead “All About Bats,” an interactive, sensory experience about these fascinating animals. This program will be held in the barn at Wolbach Farm in Sudbury at 4:00 pm, Wednesday, March 15. On the first day of spring, March 20 at 4:00 pm, return to Wolbach to see the new book on the Storybook Trail and participate in a seed planting activity.

During April vacation, SVT teams up with the Discovery Museums in Acton for a Family Tree ID Walk on Friday, April 21 at 1 pm. This program will be offered again on Saturday, May 7 at 9:30 am. These events are free with admission to the Discovery Museums.

The Skylight Astronomical Society of Stow returns to the fields of Wolbach Farm with a variety of telescopes for a Star Watch on Friday, May 19 at 8:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to learn from amateur astronomers about planets, stars, and distant galaxies. This program is appropriate for families with older children and teens.

On June 24 at 10:00 am, SVT is hosting a “Habitat Walk at Wolbach: Bees, Birds & More.” Tour the trails and gardens of Wolbach Farm and learn about the new pollinator garden, bee hotel, and other efforts underway to support pollinator migration along the Sudbury River.

Please register for programs at www.svtweb.org/calendar as space is limited.

Families are also welcome to come by any time to walk the Story Trail at Wolbach Farm, 18 Wolbach Road in Sudbury, where a new book is presented each season, and visit our newly renovated Nature Nook. This nature resource room is always open for families to explore when visiting Wolbach Farm, to enhance learning happening along our .8 mile woodland nature trail. Bring a picnic to enjoy at a picnic table or the grassy hillside.

SVT and nearly 3000 members protect and care for land and wildlife habitat in 36 communities surrounding the Concord, Assabet, and Sudbury Rivers.
