Walking Tour of SVT’s Memorial Forest Reservation, April 1

20100530_Eastern Box Turtle3_Dick McWalter.JPGJoin Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) Executive Director Lisa Vernegaard for a walking tour of SVT’s Memorial Forest Reservation in Sudbury on Saturday, April 1, 10:00 am to 11:30 am. Lisa will lead walkers through parts of the forest that have recently been thinned as part of SVT’s multi-year project to restore the rare pitch pine/scrub oak barrens, and the wildlife that thrive there, to this landscape.

During the walk, Lisa will explain why SVT embarked on the project, which species it will affect, and how the forest is expected to respond. For more information, including directions and parking information, register for this free educational walk at www.svtweb.org/calendar or by calling 978-443-5588 X123.

All trails at Memorial Forest are now open for visitors. In February, SVT reopened the Desert Loop trail, which had been closed during the tree-thinning. SVT staff and volunteers have posted new trail markers and will continue to tidy up the trail corridor as the spring progresses.
