Wayland Rail Trail Brush Clearing and Turntable Excavation at Wayland Depot

Volunteer rail trail brush clearing and turntable excavation at the Wayland Depot.  Efforts will focus on clearing brush from the preserved track in the historic district so that it can be better appreciated by users of the trail and so that it will be an attractive part of the future Wayland railroad interpretive site alongside the trail. The Wayland Historical Commission is sponsoring its 16th annual volunteer Spring brush clearing at the Wayland Depot (1 Cochituate Rd.) on Saturday, May 6 (9am-4pm) and Sunday, May 7 (1-4pm). Volunteers are encouraged to come either day to help remove brush, vines, and undergrowth along the inactive railroad tracks alongside the rail trail near Wayland Depot. We will also continue to excavate the turntable pit to expose more of the circular granite walls in addition to removing brush that has grown up at the engine house and water tank sites. Volunteers should bring work gloves and pruning tools, shovels, and should wear work clothes and boots. For more information call Rick Conard at (508) 358-4597 after 7pm or by email at RRConard@earthlink.net.  For the trail, there is some touching up needed on the trail edge, as well as removal of some trash.
