Augustus White III, MD to speak in Weston on Sunday, October 22

Dr. White, will speak about his book “Seeing Patients-Unconscious Bias in Health Care” at the First Parish Church in Weston on Sunday, October 22nd at 11:45am. The book traces Dr. White’s career path from segregated schools in Memphis, Tennessee to Mount Herman School, Brown University, the first African American graduate in 1961 of the Stanford University School of Medicine, Ph.D. studies at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps earning a Bronze Star in Vietnam, the first African American surgical resident at the Yale-New Haven Hospital, endowed chair professor at Harvard Medical School, Chief of orthopedic surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and his current work in promoting culturally competent care.
