10th Annual League of Women Voters Civics Bee set for March 4

The tenth annual League of Women Voters’ Civics Bee will take place Sunday, March 4, at 2 p.m.

Teams from Sudbury, Weston, and Wayland will vie for the Civics Bee trophy. The Civics Bee is sponsored by the Leagues in the three towns.

The Bee will be held at Wayland High School, 264 Old Connecticut Path, in Wayland. The Bee is free, and the public is encouraged to come and cheer for their town. The League of Women Voters of Wayland is host this year.

The special theme section of this year’s Bee is Lawmakers—State and Federal. The main focus of the Civics Bee remains to challenge the teams’ overall knowledge of federal, state and local government, with questions in all of those categories.

The Civics Bee teams are composed of six middle school students, six high school students and three adults from each town. The Leagues are currently seeking volunteers for the teams. If you are interested, contact the League of Women Voters in your town. The Bee Master, or moderator, will be Jo-Ann Berry of the Acton Area League. Erik Owens, an associate professor at Boston College, will be the judge. The Wayland Cultural Council is providing support for the Civics Bee.

The League of Women Voters encourages informed and active participation in government and works to increase understanding of major public policy issues. For additional information, see the state website, www.lwvma.org, or the national website, www.lwv.org.
