ADULT PROGRAMS

  • Genealogy Workshop. Drop by our genealogy workshop to chat with other genealogists, seasoned and newbie alike.  Share your sleuthing stories, struggles, and triumphs.  Thursday, September 27, and October 11 and 25 at 1 p.m.  Please register in advance online or by phone.
  • Great Presenters: Composing a Song Cycle for Voice and Piano. Wayland composer/pianist Neil Olmstead will present his new song cycle for mezzo-soprano and piano in a lecture/listening session.  Neil will discuss the process of composing these pieces and the challenges faced in rehearsing, performing, and recording this music. Aural examples of the pieces will be presented.  In addition, vocalist Ana Guigui will be on hand to offer her professional perspective and talent.  Tuesday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Author Talk: Eric Jay Dolin Recounts Tales of America’s Most Notorious Pirates. Author Dolin’s book, Black Flags, Blue Waters, provides a wholly original account of the seafaring outlaws whose raids reflect the precarious nature of American colonial life.  Among them were the towering Blackbeard, ill-fated Captain Kidd, and sadistic Edward Low, who delighted in torturing his captives.  Afterwards, the author will take questions and sign books.  Wednesday, October 17 at 7 p.m.
  • English Conversation Groups, The group for beginners meets Friday, September 28 and October 12 and 26 from 10:30-11:30 a.m.  The intermediate group meets Wednesday, September 26 and October 10 and 24 from 10-11 a.m.
  • Library Walking Club. Join us for a 30-minute walk along a route near the library and enjoy each other’s company while getting some exercise.  Please wear comfortable shoes, and bring water and rainwear if necessary.  All ages and all levels are welcome.  Meet at the library at 10:30 on the first Friday of the month, September-December, rain or shine.  Next walk: October 5.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, Oct. 2, 9, 16 and 23 at 10:30 a.m.
    • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursdays, Sept. 27; Oct. 18 and 25 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Zumba,  Rhythm and dance program led by Hayley Chizinsky of H2K Happy Healthy Kids Fitness Studio. Tuesday, September 25, 10:30 a.m.
  • Storytime with Corbyn the Dog. Children will listen to dog stories and have a chance to visit with Corbyn, a beautiful Samoyed. Corbyn (with her owner Helen) has been certified as a therapy dog by Pets and People Foundation.  For ages 3 and up. Thursday, October 4, 10:30 a.m.
  • Inclusive Playgroup: Stories, Songs, and Sign. This interactive, inclusive music and literacy group is for young children at all levels of communication and ability. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 3 years. Wednesdays, October 10 and 24, 11:00-11:45 a.m.
  • Sing-along with Jeannie Mack, Jeannie Mack will perform all kinds of fun, bounce-around, sing-along songs for young children. Plenty of opportunity for audience participation! For babies, toddlers, and preschoolers with caregiver. Thursday, October 11, 10:30-11:15 a.m.
  • Music and Movement, Get your wiggles out! Songs, dances, and stretches for walkers to age 5. Wednesday, October 15, 10:30-11:00 a.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! Boost your superpowers by adding a library card to your back-to-school toolkit.  Ask at the Children’s Desk about signing up for a library card today!  (Children who get new library cards will get a sticker and a bookmark that feature characters from the Incredibles 2 movie!)
  • Let’s Build: Lego Car Run, Let’s Build is a hands-on building workshop for kids in grades 4-6. Each month will feature a different building challenge. This month’s Let’s Build Challenge is to build the fastest Lego Car Run. Let’s Build workshops are run by Wayland High School Seniors Eileen Chau and Julia Treese. For kids in grades 4-6. Wednesday, September 26, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Lego Club, Children will make fabulous creations out of Legos. This month’s theme is Scary Creatures! For ages 5 and up. Wednesday, October 3, 3:00-4:00p.m.
  • Drop-in Craft: Apples and Pumpkins, It’s apple and pumpkin season! Join us for stories and crafts featuring apples and pumpkins. For ages 5 and up. Wednesday, October 10, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Spooktacular Storytime, Join Ms. Carly at this Saturday storytime for some spooky stories and not-so-scary rhymes! For babies to 5 years, with caregiver. Saturday, October 13, 11:00-11:30 a.m.
  • Girl Who Code Club,  NEW! The Wayland Public Library is offering a Girls Who Code club for girls in grades 3-5, which will meet on Monday afternoons, from 4:30 to 6:00, October 15 to December 17, excluding school holidays.  The mission of Girls Who Code is to help bridge the gender gap in the technology fields.  Wayland’s club will be led by Wayland parent volunteers, and the club will meet in the Raytheon Room of the library.     The library will also be hosting a Girls Who Code club for girls in grades 6-12 again this year.  This club will meet Tuesdays, from 4 to 6 p.m., October 16 through May 28, excluding school holidays. The teens will learn programming skills with Python, building simple sensor projects, and other technologies using Raspberry Pi single-board computers. To register for this club, click here.
