Wayland Philanthropy We have been approached by a number of residents who have sought to make donations to WaylandeNews. While we are flattered by the sentiment, we do not accept financial contributions. We strongly encourage those who wish to thank us to instead make a contribution to a Wayland nonprofit organization listed on our Wayland Philanthropy page.  If you wish, you may consider making a donation in the name of WaylandeNews, and help us to help our local nonprofits!

8 Strangers a group committed to rallying the Wayland community around a common cause so that families in need feel celebrated and supported. 8 Strangers identifies and partners with families and charitable organizations and runs community-wide events that raise awareness, funds, and opportunities for connection and fun.The AKAA Project is creating opportunity for families in the Eastern Region of Ghana.At Home and Afar embraces a vision and mission to bring medical and humanitarian assistance to those in need, with a focus in the U.S. and under-developed countries located in the Caribbean and Central America.

Barn-Raising.org an affordable, high performance organization that assists individuals in navigating through the complicated world of the job search or new business experience.

Bread of Compassion provides life-sustaining medical care to indigent people-groups in Haiti who otherwise have no access to basic healthcare.

Christopher’s Haven was founded to create and operate a home away from home for children being treated for cancer at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children andtheir families.

Dignity Matters‘ mission is to assist homeless women and women in need by providing underwear and feminine hygiene products when they need them most. Through our action, we support women in regaining self-confidence and dignity by helping them stay healthy and clean. Redistributing gently used bras is also good for the environment by keeping these items out of landfills.

Dudley Pond Association is an organized watershed group with bylaws specifically for the maintenance of the Pond.

Eliza J. Norton Foundation aims to continue Eliza’s legacy by providing children with increased access to and enhanced experiences in athletics and beyond with a focus on teamwork, good sportsmanship, and community building.

Friends of Cochituate State Park is a private, nonprofit organization that works in partnership with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and supports DCR’s efforts to improve and operate Cochituate State Park.  The Friends encourage responsible public enjoyment of the park.  By bringing people together to share interests and activities, the Friends aspire to foster sense of community and stewardship of valuable natural resources.  Friends programs include recreation, education, advocacy, and fundraising for park purposes.

Friends of the Wayland Public Library: hopes to preserve the Library’s tradition of service and to support the continued growth of a strong, responsive library.

Golden Tones maintain and administer a senior citizen chorus to improve the quality of life for chorus members and the community through art and song.

Holistic Moms Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting moms with an interest in natural health and mindful parenting. Our chapter will hold monthly meetings on a variety of topics including organic food, breastfeeding, massage therapy, alternative health, toxins in our environment, and positive discipline. In addition, we will be forming a lending library and organizing playgroups for moms with babies and preschoolers.

The Human Relations Service provides mental health treatment–regardless of ability to pay—to all residents of Wellesley, Weston, and Wayland, offering high quality care in a warm, informal setting. We also provide prevention, consultation, education, college counseling, and employee assistance services, and are the community’s safety net when crisis and tragedy strike. In everything we do, we seek to deepen the relationships and broaden the skills that keep children, families, and a community healthy.

Infante Sano seeks is to improve newborn and maternal health in Latin America and the Caribbean. By equipping hospitals and staff with the tools and skills they need, Infante Sano is working hard to save and improve the lives of mothers and newborns.

 

Lauren Dunne Astley Memorial Fund is a non-profit charitable organization founded to honor the life of Lauren Dunne Astley, an 18-year old graduate of Wayland High School who planned to head to Elon University in the fall.  Lauren was passionate about the arts and community service.  The fund’s mission is to promote dynamic educational programs, particularly those in the areas of the development of healthy teen relationships, the arts, and community service.

Let’s Save the Strays International – Our mission is to support the humane treatment of animals and inspire communities to treat them with respect through community involvement and TNVR (trap neuter vaccinate release) We are a 100% volunteer and private donation based organization working with veterinarians and their teams to perform TNVR and needed medical care on animals living on the streets as strays.

Metrowest Free Medical Program offers free medical care to those who are uninsured and underinsured in the MetroWest communities, with a vision that all people have access to quality care, regardless of their ability to pay.

OARS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to protect, preserve, and enhance the natural and recreational features of the Assabet, Sudbury, and Concord rivers, their tributaries and watersheds, and to increase public awareness of the rivers’ values as important natural resources.

Parmenter Community Health provides all residents of our community with exceptional homecare, hospice and supportive services enabling our clients to maintain or improve their current levels of function in the face of disease, disability or the aging process. Furthermore, we enable the dying and their families to face the end of life with comfort and dignity.

Pierce’s Pantry: The Gluten-Free Food Bank‘s mission is to supply emergency food relief to clients whose health depends upon a gluten-free diet.

Mazie Foundation recruits volunteers from area companies to act as Mentors to high school students recommended for the program by their school counselors. The Mentors help, encourage and motivate their Mentees to dream of what they want in life and commit to do the things that will make their dreams a reality.

Neighbor Brigade – Help is next door. Wayland Neighbor Brigade is a community-based network of volunteers at the ready to lend a hand to neighbors during times of temporary crisis – such as serious illness, major surgery, sudden accident or tragedy. Services include meal delivery, local rides, dog walking, help with errands, and more. Rebuilding Together Boston (RTB) is a non-profit organization working in partnership with the community, with volunteers and skilled labor, to stabilize and revitalize homes in our city at no cost to our recipient.

Rotary Club of Weston & Wayland members are business and professional leaders who volunteer in their communities and promote world understanding and peace. Rotary’s 31,000 clubs in more than 165 countries and regions encourage high ethical standards and carry out humanitarian projects to address such issues as poverty, health, hunger, education and the environment.

Save a Dog Foundation is an all breed dog rescue and adoption agency. We take in dogs from high-volume shelters and thus save them from being put to sleep. We also take in dogs whose owners no longer want or who have been abandoned.

Spread the Bread is a community bread-giving initiative to help both kids and adults get into the spirit of giving by spreading bread to honor our heroes and spread good will to those in need. This unique bread philanthropy also empowers and teaches young children that they can make a difference, regardless of their age.

Sudbury Valley Trustees protects the wildlife habitat and ecological integrity of the Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord Rivers Valley for the benefit of present and future generations.

Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization of men and women incorporated in 1999. The goal of the Roundtable is to raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence through community education and networking and to improve the coordination between public and private services for victims and families touched by domestic violence.

Vokes Players.  Since 1937, the Vokes Players have evolved into one of the premier community theatre companies in New England, drawing many artists who work professionally in theatre elsewhere. The group is made up entirely of volunteers, including the Board of Directors who are responsible for running the Players and the Theatre. Vokes presents four major productions a year, generally including one musical, as well as various member and subscriber performances throughout the year.

Water Warriors Swim Program.  The Wayland High School “Water Warriors” represent a group of Wayland High School students assisted by parents and teachers who provide free swim and water safety lessons to Wayland METCO students in grades 1-8.  This program began in 2011 and provides free swim lessons to 30 METCO students.  In 2012, there are 42 METCO students enrolled. By all accounts, these lessons promote after-school fitness and water safety, and foster important mentoring relationships between high school and younger students.

WayCAM.  The mission of the Corporation is to provide a non-profit, electronic forum for the free exchange of information and ideas which reflect the talents, skills, interests, concerns, and diversity of the Wayland community.

Wayland Community Fund provides assistance to Wayland residents  who have lived in Wayland for at least one year (as stipulated in the bequest). Payment is made directly to vendors or suppliers of services. Cash is not given to applicants, but we do provide grocery store food vouchers. In the first eighteen years of operation, we have provided more than $500,000 in assistance to Wayland residents.

Wayland Historical Society collects, studies and conserve artifacts and records relating to the history of Wayland and its people, preserves and maintains the 1740 Grout-Heard House as the home of the Wayland Historical Society, provides programs which are relevant to local history for residents of the community including school children, assists in the research of all who seek information on Wayland history, disseminates information which will provide a fuller understanding of the traditions and the history of the Town of Wayland and its neighboring communities.

Wayland Public Library Millennium Endowment Fund provides a permanent supplementary source of funding for the future, helping to assure the continuation of excellence in library services.

Wayland Public Schools Foundation seeks to enhance the education of Wayland’s children and provide support to Wayland’s teachers by funding grant proposals for innovative projects and creative units of study not covered by the regular school budget.

Wayland Veterans Memorial Committee. The memorial is intended to help people better appreciate the gift of freedom by providing a serene place for contemplation and meditation, by helping to recall and understand past sacrifices and the costs of freedom, and by educating the current and future generations of their responsibility to defend their freedoms and to pass them on undiminished.

Wheels for the World collects, restores, and distributes wheelchairs, walkers, and metal canes and crutches to the disabled in developing countries, such as Ghana, Cuba, Honduras, Romania and the Ukraine. In these countries the disabled are either discarded or left to drag themselves around. Wheels for the World New England covers all of the New England states and is based in Wayland.
