Candidate Statement:

I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Wayland Free Public Library Board of Trustees.  The Board of Selectmen appointed me as a Trustee when a seat was vacated in September of 2017 and I would like the opportunity to continue in this role for 3 more years.

My husband, Thom and I moved to Wayland in 2005 with the intention of settling into a community and raising our family.   Thom’s firm has been based here for a number of years and we were drawn to the excellent school system and open space.  13 years later, our daughter is benefiting from our amazing schools, my husband’s Wayland based firm is thriving, and we are all meaningfully involved with our town through various organizations and volunteerism.

I have been drawn to libraries since childhood.  My mother worked in the Circulation Department of the Worcester Public Library when I was growing up.  I would spend hours wandering the stacks and chasing information on any and all topics that interested me.  The relationships I had with librarians and staff had a tremendous influence on my young mind, and help to inform and shape the person I have become by giving me access to information and ideas I may not have found any other way.  They helped to extend my education beyond the classroom and open whole other worlds to me.

I believe strongly in the mission of the library to provide open and guided access to a wide variety of media and programs to all of Wayland’s citizens.   In my role as a trustee, I want to continue contributing my time and energy to furthering the intellectual environment of our town.
