Wayland Patch 10/1/12: Wayland Fire Dept. Account of Tree Vs. Car Incident Sunday. A rotted tree feel Sunday night along Wayland's Woodridge Road. It tumbled through multiple power lines, cutting power to about 700 Wayland residents and businesses, before landing on the front seat of a passing car, pinning the female driver inside. Wayland firefighters rescued the woman, a Wayland resident in her late 50s, and transported her to Beth Israel Medical Center for evaluation and possible smoke inhalation.

Wayland Town Crier 8/29/12: Town seeks early judgment in Wayland crosswalk death case. Facing a lawsuit in the crosswalk death of an 80-year-old pedestrian, the town is asking a Superior Court judge to rule in its favor before the case goes to trial. The accident took place in 2008, when Marie Martino was struck by a Ford van and killed in a crosswalk near the corner of West Plain and Mitchell streets, just down the road from her home. Two of her daughters have filed a wrongful death and negligence suit in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn against the town and NStar seeking an undisclosed sum, citing both the loss of companionship and more than $18,000 in hospital and burial costs.

Newton bicyclist hit by SUV in Wayland in critical condition

Wayland Patch 8/25/11: Bicyclist Transported Via Medflight After Crash With SUV. It appears, according to Wayland Police, that bicyclist Charles Abele collided with the passenger side of the SUV as the vehicle turned left from Route 20 onto Glen Road Wednesday morning. Wayland Police Chief Robert Irving said there was a bicycle helmet at the scene when he arrived, which he assumes Abele was wearing when the accident occurred. Abele's condition remained critical on Thursday morning, according to a spokesperson for Boston Medical Center. The accident remains under investigation, though it does not appear charges will be filed.

Wayland Town Crier 8/24/11: Newton bicyclist hit by SUV in Wayland. Wayland fire and police responded to a report of a bicyclist hit by a motor vehicle on Rte. 20 at Glen Road at about 8 a.m. According to police, Charles Abele, 51, of 79 Dickerman Road, Newton, was seriously injured when he was struck by an SUV driven by Robert Dooley of 85 Horse Pond Road in Sudbury. An emergency MedFlight helicopter was called and landed in a field near town hall at about 8:20 a.m., according to police communications. Abele was flown to Boston Medical Center. Dooley was not injured and the crash is being investigated by Wayland Police.

Boston Globe 8/24/11: Bicyclist seriously injured after he collides with SUV in Wayland, police say from Metro Desk. A Wayland bicyclist was seriously injured this morning after he crashed into a car on Route 20, Wayland police said. The bicyclist rode into the car at about 8 a.m. at the intersection of Route 20 and Glen Road, Wayland Police Lieutenant Patrick Swanick said. Police do not believe the bicyclist’s injuries are life-threatening, Swanick said. He was sent by helicopter to Boston Medical Center. The driver of the car, a Ford Explorer, was not injured, though the SUV was damaged on the passenger side door, Swanick added. The crash is still under investigation, though Swanick said he does not expect any charges to be filed in the case.

WCVB TV 5 8/24/11: Bicyclist Struck By Car. A bicyclist was struck by a car in Wayland on Wednesday morning. The crash happened near Route 20 and Glen Road just after 8 a.m. A police officer at the scene said a 51-year-old man was struck. He was taken by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital. His name has not been released.
