Voters to decide on new bath house at Town Beach

Wayland Town Crier 4/15/10: Voters to decide on new bath house at Town Beach. The Town Beach’s bath house on Lake Cochituate may get a complete facelift if voters approve the reconstruction of the building at Town Meeting and at the polls next month. “The building is literally rotting,” said Recreation Director Nancy McShea of the nearly 40-year-old structure. The building often floods, an annual occurrence that was intensified by this year’s heavy rains. In the spring, all equipment must be kept three feet off the ground to prevent water damage. The town has been working to replace the bath house for at least six years. The new incarnation would include improvements to the lifeguard office and restrooms. In addition to a new snack bar, there will also be a “splash bath,” a water-based playground for young children. The septic system would also receive an upgrade and the building will be altered to address Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) complaints that have plagued the old building for years.
