American Girl Author at Wayland Library Event

Local author Jacqueline Dembar Greene will be at the Wayland Library to talk to young readers about how she created the newest American Girl historical character, Rebecca Rubin. Her work involved delving into the history of immigrant life in the early 1900s and recreating what life might have been like in a Russian-Jewish family living in New York City in 1914. Rebecca has quickly become a beloved character through the seven books Ms. Greene has written about the character to date.

You can hear more about the history and the personal stories that inspired the books, and see some interesting items that are mentioned in the stories, such as a crocheted doily and a kewpie doll. There will also be a door prize drawing for a Rebecca doll. Following Ms. Greene's talk, books will be available for sale and signing. The author has written more than 30 picture books, historical fiction, and non-fiction for young readers, many of which have received national awards and recognition. The event is for readers ages 8 and older.

It takes place at the Wayland Library, 5 Concord Rd., at 11am on Tuesday, February 22. There is no charge for the program.
