Wayland Patch 8/29/12: Cuban Ballplayers Take the Field in Wayland. Michael Eizenberg saw several years worth of work come to fruition last week as Cuban ballplayers arrived in Massachusetts for a series of Friendship Games. Eizenberg stood Aug. 24 at Cochituate Field in Wayland and watched as Cuban ballplayers played a pickup game with members of the Eastern Massachusetts Senior Softball (EMASS) league. The Cuban players arrived in the U.S. the day before as the first such team permitted to come to the states in more than 50 years, according to an EMASS press release.

Eye-opening trip to Cuba for local softball players

Wayland Town Crier 1/22/10: Eye-opening trip to Cuba for local softball players. Nine senior softball players from Wayland, Weston and Sudbury traveled to Havana, Cuba, in early November to compete against their Cuban counterparts in a week of competition, camaraderie and cultural exchange. The nine local players were part of a group of 60 senior softball players (ages 55 and over) from the Eastern Massachusetts Senior Softball Association (EMASS), who have been playing softball on Tuesdays and Saturdays in Cochituate for the past 15 years.
