Committee continues to work toward proposal at Dudley Pond

Wayland Town Crier 10/20/11: Committee continues to work toward proposal at Dudley Pond. An advisory committee is continuing to try to find common group on the fate of a 7-and-a-half acre parcel of town-owned land on the east side of Dudley Pond. The Dudley Area Advisory Committee welcomed back consultants from Tighe & Bond last Wednesday night to assess the first two public “charrettes” held so far and figure out the next steps before the committee brings a proposal forward to the Board of Selectmen. E. coli levels down in all areas of Dudley Pond

Wayland Town Crier 9/5/11: E. coli levels down in all areas of Dudley Pond. The final set of sample results show E. coli levels down in all areas of Dudley Pond. Over the 12 weeks of testing we had two instances of E. coli being above the state limits at one of the four areas tested — Mansion Beach. These results suggest that:

  • Dudley Pond is sensitive to additional nutrient loading.
  • Improvements are needed in stormwater management and street runoff.
  • Regulations should be considered for fertilizer use in the Dudley Pond watershed.
  • Regulations should be considered for septic inspection, septic record keeping, and nutrient controls from septic systems.
  • Sampling for E. coli should be continued in 2012.

The Surface Water Quality Committee appreciates the support of the Health Department in facilitating this testing.
