Boston Globe 12/26/12: Massachusetts eighth-graders storm their way to Football University semifinals. A team of Massachusetts eighth-graders has flattened its East Coast opponents in the preliminary rounds of the Football University National Championship, and is one of four squads still standing in the elite, 64-team national tournament. Team Massachusetts outscored New Hampshire, Connecticut-North, Connecticut-South and Maryland 133-12 to earn a semifinal matchup against North Georgia Jan. 4 at the 11,000-seat Heroes Stadium in San Antonio, Texas. Included among the 35-player roster are two players from Wayland: linebacker Everett Tillett and defensive lineman Malvin Santana.

Boston Globe 11/28/12: Wayland wins behind powerful duo of Williamses. After running back Brian Garcia injured his ankle in Wayland’s Thanksgiving Day game, Robert Williams, who splits totes with Garcia, knew he would need to carry the Warriors’ ground game. The junior responded with a career game on Tuesday at Hollingsworth Field, rushing for 307 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Warriors (9-3) to a 36-14 win over Westwood and a trip to the Division 3 Super Bowl, where they’ll face Sharon at Bentley University.

Brian Harvey Named a Semifinalist for NFF Scholar-Athlete Awards

University of Maine 9/28/12: Brian Harvey Named a Semifinalist for NFF Scholar-Athlete Awards.  University of Maine football standout  Brian Harvey has been named a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy, given to college football's best scholar-athlete, and was also named a candidate for the organization's National Scholar-Athlete Awards.  Harvey, a senior place kicker from Wayland, Mass., has been a steady force for the Black Bears during his tenure.
