Wayland Patch 10/27/11: Talks Underway for an Ice Rink in Wayland. A chilly day, snow in the air and an outdoor ice rink within walking distance. Wayland's Department of Public Works is exploring the possibilty of creating an outdoor ice rink in Wayland during the upcoming ice skating season. According to an email from Board of Public Works member Michael Wegerbauer to others on the board that recapped an Oct. 17 meeting, the discussions are just underway, but the idea has been "well received" thus far. The draft minutes from an Oct. 17 meeting state that the Board of Public Works discussed locations and logistics for the rink and voted unanimously to form an ice skating rink committee to continue looking into the matter.

Wayland Patch 1/14/11: Wayland Leaders Won’t Let Tragedy Change Their Plans. In many ways, the events that took place in Tuscan, Ariz., last Saturday seem a million miles from the quiet of Wayland, Mass. The shooting happened two time zones away, after all, and Arizona might as well be a different country for many people on the east coast. But the tragedy did resonate here. It resonated in the moment of silence observed Monday morning; it resonated in the well-wishes and heartfelt grieving offered by individuals living thousands of miles away; it resonated in the frustration and anger and questions as people did their best to understand how – why – something so horrific could take place. Now, nearly a week since the shooting, public officials who serve Wayland are resolute that the tragedy will not resonate by separating them from meeting, greeting and walking among their constituents.

Three appointed to Wayland public safety building board

Wayland Town Crier 1/11/11: Three appointed to Wayland public safety building board. Selectmen last night unanimously appointed three residents to the temporary Public Safety Building Advisory Committee: attorney Bradford Carver and architects Kevin Crowley and Douglas Goddard. The purpose of the committee is to advise selectmen, other town boards and committees, the town administrator and the public buildings director on all issues related to the repair and restoration of the public safety building, which sustained serious damage during last spring's floods. It will serve until Dec. 31, 2012, at the latest. In addition to the three appointed members, the public buildings director and the town administrator will serve as ex officio members of the committee without the right to vote and their presence will not be counted in determining a quorum.

Selectmen Name Committee Members, Address Other Business

Wayland Patch 1/11/11: Selectmen Name Committee Members, Address Other Business. Wayland's Board of Selectmen unanimously appointed Kevin Crowley, Doug Goddard and Brad Carver to the new Public Safety Building Advisory Committee. Selectmen also welcomed Wayland Free Public Library Director Ann Knight and Wayland Reads committee chair Sally Cartwright, who introduced the next Wayland Reads book, “Zeitoun” by Dave Eggers, and handed out copies and Wayland Reads buttons to selectmen. The board also discussed a recent Open Meeting Law complaint filed by former Wayland selectmen George Harris, who was in attendance at the meeting. Board members expressed a desire to quickly resolve the issue on a local level. The board thanked retiring Council on Aging administrative assistant Marge O’Brien for her years of service, and Town Administrator Fred Turkington updated board members on logistics for the April Town Meeting.
