Boston Globe 1/30/13: Local efforts to restrict medical marijuana spark legal questions. Many area communities are mobilizing in response to the state’s new medical marijuana law — proposing bans on distribution centers, prohibitions against home-growing, stiffer fines for using pot in public, or moratoriums. But it remains unclear whether attempts to restrict a measure approved by voters statewide will pass legal muster. Among the towns pondering some kind of response to the new state law are Acton, Dover, Framingham, Needham, Wayland, Wellesley, and Westborough.

Wayland Patch 1/22/13: Wayland Schools Wrestle With Medical Marijuana Policy.  Medical marijuana became a legal reality in Massachusetts on Jan. 1, 2013, but what that means for the state’s school districts remains a murky question.  The Wayland School Committee’s policy subcommittee, comprised of Barb Fletcher and Beth Butler, is beginning to consider the issue with an eye toward constructing new policy or modifying existing policy to address use of medical marijuana at Wayland’s schools.

Wayland Patch 1/11/13:  Wayland Planning Board Defers Decision on Medical Marijuana Bylaw. The Wayland Planning Board deferred taking a vote on recommending a proposed amendment to Wayland’s zoning bylaw that would address medical marijuana treatment centers in town. Instead of making a decision Tuesday, the board decided to leave the conversation open, with a placeholder article in the Annual Town Meeting Warrant, pending some additional guidance on the issue from the attorney general’s office.

Wayland Patch 6/6/12: Justice Hears Arguments Related to Pot Ballot Question. The Massachusetts Prevention Alliance (MAPA) expects to learn in the next week or two whether its lawsuit calling for clarified wording in a potential November ballot question will be successful. In May, MAPA filed a lawsuit asking that the wording of the ballot question itself as well as the voter information related to that question be modified for a potential question related to the legalization of medical marijuana in Massachusetts.
