Metrowest Daily News 10/6/10: Police say texting ban a tough law to enforce. The new state ban on texting while driving went into effect last week, but local police officers have not been busy writing citations. In fact, area departments say they haven't issued any, though officers are well aware they can. Police leaders say a big factor is the difficulty detecting a violation. Unlike speeding, police leaders say, texting is far from obvious. "It's not an easy law to enforce," said Wayland Police Chief Robert Irving. "We don't want to give anyone a citation erroneously. An officer has to be pretty sure there's a violation before we issue a citation."
