Wayland selectmen welcome director of veterans district

Wayland Town Crier 8/24/12: Wayland selectmen welcome director of veterans district. The Board of Selectmen formally greeted Stanley Spear on Monday night, the director of the West Suburban Veterans District, which the town recently joined. Spear served in the Marines during the Vietnam War and lost his left hand aboard ship. Wayland’s move to the regional office came along with the recent retirement of longtime Veterans Agent John Turchinetz.

Memorial Day exhibit dedicated to Jim Burkley

Wayland Town Crier 5/17/10: Memorial Day exhibit dedicated to Jim Burkley. This year’s Memorial Day exhibit, sponsored by the Wayland Veterans Memorial Committee and the Wayland Cultural Council, will be shown from May 18 to July 5 in the ArtSpace of the Town Building. The display, to consist of 10 large photo, sketch and story panels, has been dedicated to Jim Burkley, who was chairman of the Veterans Memorial Committee until his sudden death in late April. The exhibit’s focus is on Wayland, and it will draw heavily from the committee’s Book of Remembrance, which was published in 2008. Burkley served as editor-in-chief.
