Examining trends in Youth Risk Behavior Survey

Wayland Town Crier 6/25/09: Examining trends in Youth Risk Behavior Survey.  The landscape of teenage substance abuse often seems littered with landmines. And just as one is discovered and somewhat defused, another appears ready to blow up. Such are the findings of the most recent Youth Risk Behavior Survey conducted last spring by the Wayland Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (WSAPC) on the town’s middle and high school students, the results of which have just been released.  The use of substances of all kinds has remained steady or decreased since 2000. But, according to Heidi Heilman, director of the coalition, the phenomenon known as "pre-gaming" seems to be increasingly prevalent.
