Wayland Citizens Firefighting Academy

The Wayland Firefighters Association is accepting applications for our third Wayland Citizens Firefighting Academy. Students will have the opportunity to see what it’s really like to be a firefighter.

Training will be presented from a new recruit’s perspective. Participation will include "hands-on" activities such as extinguishing live fires with extinguishers or hose lines and extricating trapped victims from a vehicle using the "Jaws of Life."

The Wayland Citizens Firefighting Academy will provide a unique inside look at a firefighter’s career as well as offer important fire education and prevention lessons.

Classes will start on April 1 and will be held on every Tuesday and Thursday night through April 20. This program is geared towards adults; however high school students under age 17 may enroll if accompanied by an adult. There is no fee for this program. While Wayland residents get preference, this program is open to all interested.

To get your application or receive additional information, contact the Wayland Firefighters Association by e-mail or leave a voice message at 508-358-6922 including your name and contact number or e-mail.

The firefighters would also like to hear from past fire academy graduates, and invite them back to visit or participate during the program.
