Flooding at Public Safety Building
At approximately 4:30a.m. on 03/15/19, the Wayland Public Safety Building was forced to switch off power and evacuate non-essential personnel due to water entering the basement and compromising the heating and electrical system for the building. The Joint Communication Center for police and fire routine and emergency 911 calls are routed through the Sudbury Police Department and relayed to Wayland Dispatch. Apparatus and personnel for the Wayland Fire Department has temporarily moved to the Wayland Town Building, while police operations have been moved to the Emergency Operations Center in the Training Room attached to the Public Safety Building. Both departments remain operational and are responding to numerous calls related to the flooding situation and road closures in various parts of town. The Mobile Command Center for the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council has responded to Wayland and is being used as an added resource to facilitate police and fire operations. Residents should not see any change in emergency services, however some of the routine permitting and reporting functions of the department may be temporarily delayed. At this time it is unknown as to when the Public Safety Building will be able to be fully occupied. -Per Chief Robert Irving
