Taking steps for Wayland to become a ‘Green Community’

Wayland Town Crier 5/26/10: Taking steps for Wayland to become a 'Green Community'. The news is full of it – reports of towns facing financial struggles, rising energy costs and the effects of climate change. No doubt about it, these are challenging issues, but Wayland is well on its way to addressing them by working toward obtaining the "Green Community" designation from the Massachusetts Department of Energy and Resources. Once achieved, designated "Green Communities" are eligible to apply for funding to be used toward renewable energy projects, or to make their existing buildings more efficient. It’s just one of the approaches to energy saving being pursued by Wayland’s Energy Initiatives Advisory Group.

Susan Memoli, director of fine arts for the Wayland Public Schools, was contacted the day the results were released in early May. Pleasantly surprised, she said, "The programs are in good standing, and here fine arts education begins in elementary school which speaks volumes about this community."
