With a hospice chaplain, EMT and a nurse seated nearby, he took in new and historic tourist sites: the Zakim Bridge, which opened in 2002, Bunker Hill monument, Cheers pub, Newbury Street, the blooming flowers of the Public Garden and the towering walls of TD Garden, with Celtics star Rajon Rondo there on a billboard promoting H1N1 vaccinations. Boston Globe 6/27/10: Minuteman wages campaign to boost image beyond trades. Unlike other regional vocational schools around the state, Minuteman has had a longstanding history of low enrollment from its 16 member communities: Acton, Arlington, Belmont, Bolton, Boxborough, Concord, Carlisle, Dover, Lancaster, Lexington, Lincoln, Needham, Stow, Sudbury, Wayland, and Weston. Minuteman is about to embark upon an enrollment study that will look back at its struggles and look forward to predict its student population, part of preparations for a major project to renovate the building, which hasn’t been updated since opening in 1979. Minuteman could handle up to 800 full-time students from its member communities; this year’s enrollment from the 16 suburbs was 364, the lowest in its history. To round out its numbers, the school accepted 219 full-time students from outside communities, along with 118 part-time and postgraduate students.

Wayland Town Crier 6/22/10: Keeping local seniors independent in their own homes. As they grow older, most people would prefer to remain independent and living in their own home. But sometimes that requires a little help, and as they say, "good help is hard to find." One way to address the problem was developed right here in Massachusetts by Beacon Hill Village. This organization is a new model of service provision for people who are growing older, but want to stay in their own homes. The group is still exploring options, but one possibility is there would not be a membership fee in our local version of the plan, at least for the basic service of care management. Seniors would pay for services they receive, but the thought is this would be at a rate much more affordable than that charged by an agency. A meeting about the idea will be held at the Sudbury Senior Center on Wednesday, June 30 at 1:30pm. Refreshments will be served. Call 978-443-3055 to reserve your spot.
