Celebrate Wayland Events

Events Planned at Wayland High School

Over the December school break, Wayland High School will close the doors of the old academic buildings, and open the doors of the two newly constructed buildings.  To honor this important milestone, community groups came together to form Celebrate Wayland and to plan several exciting events, including:

The first annual Community Pancake Breakfast will be from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, November 24th, before the Wayland-Weston football game.  Come to the Wayland High School Commons and enjoy pancakes, sausages and other treats, and say goodbye to the old Wayland High School buildings.  Music will be provided by the WHS String Trio, the a capella group the Muses, and others.  The school will be open for your trip down memory lane, and then cheer on the Warriors.  Alumni especially welcomed.  Tickets will be $5 and will be available in the Commons at lunchtime Thanksgiving week or at the door.  For more information or to reserve tickets contact Dottie Shelton at 508-358-3508 or dfshelton@me.com.

Also on Thanksgiving, Celebrate Wayland will formally launch 100 Ways in Wayland, an alumnae/i association.  Former students can register at the breakfast, or in the future, on a website to be launched later.  The association aims to honor and celebrate Wayland High School teachers and students and help members stay in touch.  The group hopes to fund a half-time Alumnae/I Association Director position through contributions.

Former Faculty and Staff from Wayland High School will gather Friday, November 25th in the Wayland High School Commons.  Lunch will be from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.  Alumnae/i are welcome to stop by and say hello from 1:30 – 2:30 p. m.

The Wayland Historical Society in partnership with the Wayland Public Library will present “Wayland High School – Then (1855) and Now (2012)” on Sunday, January 22nd in the new Wayland High School lecture hall. The program will run from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. and will cover the history of four high schools in Wayland, culminating in the opening of the fifth new Wayland High School.  Through Historical Society archives and Wayland High School graduates, attendees will hear some new stories. Tours of the new buildings will be offered from 1:00 – 3:45 p.m.  For more information contact Jan Dunn at 508-655-9149 or Carol Repose at 508-358-0768.

On Wednesday, March 21st from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., Wayland High School will welcome the Wayland Community to the Grand Open House.   Still in the planning stage, the event will feature tours of the new buildings and renovated Field House, presentations, demonstrations, displays, and performances.  All are welcome to see the new facility, learn more about our program, and meet some of our students.  Stay tuned for more information later.

The Celebrate Wayland Committee includes members of the Wayland Public Schools Foundation, WHSPO, CAPA, Boosters, the Wayland Children and Parents Association, the Wayland Alumni Association, the Wayland High School Administration and the School Committee, the High School Building Committee and others.  It’s not too late to get involved.  For more information, or to participate in the planning, contact Cindy Lombardo, at 508-358-5958, or Lori Frieling, at 508-650-9463.
