The Children’s Way, the Wayland Public Schools early childhood program, is holding an open house Friday, December 2, 2011,  for families interested in enrolling in the 2012-13 academic year.

The session will be held from 8:45 am until 10:00 am in the Selectmens Hearing Room on the first floor, Wayland Town Building. The open house is for adults and provides a chance for parents/guardians to meet  Program Director Cheryl Fertig, learn about the programs, tour the rooms and have any questions answered.

The Children’s Way offers a range of schedules, both half and full days. The half-day hours are 8:30 am to 11:30 am or 1:00 pm for three, four, or five days. Full day schedules are 8:00 am – 3:00 pm or 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, 5:00 pm, or 6:00 pm three, four, or five days.

The program is designed for children who are ages two and one-half to 5 years old by September 1st of the entrance year and the staff ratio is approximately one teacher for every four, five or six children, depending on the classroom. These ratios make it possible for teachers to individualize instruction that promotes the growth and success of children with a wide range of learning styles.

The developmental curriculum reflects the Massachusetts Board of Education Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences based on the standards for PreK – K of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. These guidelines structure learning through play and meaningful activities in a developmental sequence. They are intended to provide continuity of curriculum from preschool into kindergarten and to ensure that children are provided with “experiences that build broad and balanced foundations for learning in all content areas.”
