HOLIDAY HOURS.  The library will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 8, and also on Monday, April 16, for Patriots Day

COMMUNITY INPUT ON LONG RANGE PLAN.  The library is starting the process of developing its next long-range plan and will be running some focus groups to assist us as we craft a plan for library service for the next three to five years.  If you would be interested in attending a focus group about library service, please contact Library Director Ann Knight at aknight@minlib.net or by calling 508-358-2311.

SHAKESPEARE WITH HELEN WHALL.  Professor Helen Whall will return this spring for our annual Shakespeare Festival.  This year the theme will be “Following Falstaff,” and the plays to be discussed will include Henry the Fourth, Part I, Henry the Fourth, Part II, and The Merry Wives of Windsor.  Programs will be on these Tuesdays: April 24, May 8, and May 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Raytheon Room.

TRANS-ARCTIC CANOE EXPEDITION.  On Tuesday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m., Jeremy Harrison will be at the library to present an account in words and photographs of his 50 day/800 mile trans-arctic canoe journey through the untarnished wilderness of northeastern Canada’s barren lands, from Pike’s Portage to the Arctic Ocean, in support of WWF-Canada.

20th CENTURY ARTISTS.  Judy Schurgin will return to the library for three Mondays in April  at 1 p.m. (April 2, 9, and 23) to guide us through an exploration of some of the most innovative artists of the twentieth century:  Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Marc Chagall.  No formal registration is required, but there is a sign-up sheet for this program at main circulation desk.

EMPLOYMENT WORKSHOPS.  On four Saturday mornings this spring the library is sponsoring employment workshops with Senior Employment Specialist Gary Gekow to help people kick-start their job searches.  The first workshop will be from 10:30-12:30 on Saturday, April 28, and will be a “Resume Writing Review.”  On that date Gary will discuss resume writing in general, via a round table group format.  Participants are encouraged to bring their existing resume for confidential one-on-one analysis as time permits.  Subsequent workshops held on May 5, 12, and 26 will address cover and thank-you letters, interviewing, and salary and benefits negotiation.

UPCOMING BOOK GROUPS.  Our Evening Book Group will be discussing Gould's Book of Fish by Richard Flanagan on Monday, April 2, at 7 p.m.  The next meeting of the Noontime Book Group is at 12 noon on Friday, April 13, and the book to be discussed is The Plague of Doves by Louise Erdrich.  New members are welcome at both book groups.

EXHIBITS.  During March, the Raytheon Room contains photography by Alice Shafer.  The Sudbury Weed Education and Eradication Team presents an exhibit in the library foyer to heighten awareness about invasive plants and the harm they do to our natural and historic places.  Our March lower level display case features information about Girl Scouting in the U.S.A., which is celebrating its 100th year on March 12, 2012.

NEEDLEWORK/HANDWORK GROUP.  The next meeting of our needlework group will be on Thursday, April 12, from 10-11:30 a.m.  This is a monthly group, facilitated by Ann Moses, that meets in the library’s Raytheon Room.  Bring your own needlework to work on while chatting and exchanging pointers.

STORYTIMES.  We now have two weekly storytimes.  “Storyvine,” on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., introduces preschoolers (ages 2.5 to 5 years) to books and reading with engaging stories, songs, and activities.  “Mother Goose Time,” on most Thursday mornings at 10:30, will be a program for babies and toddlers–filled with songs, rhymes, stories, and movement.  All of our storytimes encourage language development, socialization, and fun.  We ask that parents and care givers participate in the storytime activities with their children.  For more information, contact the Youth Services Department at 508-358-2308.

REP. CONROY’S OFFICE HOURS.  Representative Tom Conroy will hold his office hours from 3:30-4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 9, in the library’s Raytheon Room.
