Statement: Like every other city and town across the Commonwealth, Wayland is facing difficult decisions about how to provide local services to its citizens. Some of these decisions are brought on by the tough economy. Others are more local, like how we are going to build a sorely-needed state supported high school, how to increase our tax base through such endeavors as the town center project and how to improve our tax assessment system.
This past fall I had the chance to meet and speak with many people in town and listen to their concerns and heard how deeply they cared about Wayland. We may not always see eye to eye on every national issue but I find local politics, at least in Wayland, to be nonpartisan. I am proud to have the support of people from many diverse political parties.
As a 39 year resident of Wayland, I’m confident we can pull through the challenges we face; we’ve done it before, and we can do it again. But it is going to require smart decisions made by leaders we can trust, people with depth of experience and a willingness to serve rooted only in a sincere desire to help.
That’s why I am running for one of the two open seats on the Board of Selectmen on April 7th.
I have served as a state representative(10 years) as a selectman(9 years) a member of the school committee (9 years) and currently as a member of the finance committee since 2008. I enjoy working on difficult state and local issues, and working as a team member while acting as an independent thinker. I am energetic and enthusiastic about public service. I may not have all the answers to our problems, but I am a good listener and will always be available to hear your thoughts and opinions about how to make our community better.
Please share your thoughts with me on issues facing our community. Feel free to call me at (508) 358-2462 or email me at swpope@verizon.net. I would appreciate your support at the polls on April 7th.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Susan W. Pope
