The band, which features tight harmonies backed up by strong instrumental work, will cover a variety of songs from the categories of Classic Rock, R&B, New Wave, Grunge, and Blues. A favorite in their home town of Wayland, the band has evolved over the past ten years of their existence, recently adding vocalist Gena Rider of Holliston and welcoming Tim Neves of Natick on harmonicas and vocals. Original members Charlie D'Ambrosio, Bob Lutz and Steve Robb were joined in 2008 by James Winokur. The band will donate all its tips to Guitars4Vets, an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of ailing and injured military veterans by providing them with guitars and music instruction (guitars4vets.org). Music kicks off at 9PM.

Wayland’s Board of Selectmen Monday night learned about the current status of a project last in discussion several years ago.

The Danforth Housing Project in Framingham, just over the Wayland line on Old Connecticut Path, is back under negotiation, with some changes, after having been tabled for a number of years.

On Monday, Roy MacDowell, a representative with Baystone Development, met with selectmen, representatives from several other Wayland boards, and individuals familiar with the history of the project through their involvement several years ago. His company is in talks with both Framingham and Wayland to develop the project and has the land, adjacent to the Pod Meadow Conservation Area, under agreement.

Saturday, May 19 will be a big night for Wayland High School juniors – the night of the Junior Prom, where excitement is high and memories will be made that last a lifetime.
“Late Night” is a 16-year Wayland tradition. Every year since 1997, Wayland High School parents and local businesses have contributed to create a fun, alcohol and drug-free chaperoned party for the Wayland High School juniors to be together immediately afterthe Junior Prom.

An after-school program for Wayland Middle School students interested in cooking together and exploring French culture, music, and language is being offered once again for Grades 6, 7, and 8 students. The class – Passport to Paris and Beyond, An Exploration of Francophone Cuisine, Culture, and Language – debuted in the fall, and many of the students expressed interest in continuing.

Held in the Wayland Middle School from 3:15 pm to 4:30 pm, the class is led by Wabe Yurek, who is on staff at Loker School and with the BASE program. He has also taught English in France and Guadeloupe to Grades 3-12 students. The fee for the six classes is $90. Dates are March 2 through April 13, and the class is offered through Community Education, Wayland School Community Programs. Fall students are welcome to return since the program will be different from the recently completed one. Through the program, children have a chance to learn about a culture through its food. Tenor Luigi Boccia and pianist Arthur McManus will present a survey of the history of Italian song. The program includes songs by Baroque composers (Scarlatti, Giordini), works of 19th-century song composers (Tosti, Tirindelli), opera arias (Ponchielli, Cilea), songs by 20th-century opera composers (Puccini, Mascagni, Respighi, Leoncavallo), and selections from the rich history of Neapolitan song.

Luigi Boccia hails from Italy, where he studied Musicology at the University of Pavia before coming to the U.S. to begin his performing career with lead roles in Don Giovanni, Gianni Snicchi, The Merry Widow, The Barber of Seville, and others. Among other awards, Boccia was winner in the 2008 and 2009 Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation Competition and won First Prize in the 2008 Gerda Lissner Competition in New York. In 2010, he debuted at Carnegie Hall as tenor soloist in Mozart’s Coronation Mass and in Catania (Sicily) as Alfredo in Verdi’s La Traviata. He is currently a resident artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia.

Arthur McManus has collaborated with numerous singers in the New York metropolitan area for over 20 years, serving as pianist for master classes conducted by such illustrious singers as Licia Albanese, Robert Merrill, and Martina Arroyo. He has been a collaborative pianist in the music department of Brandeis University, and currently is organist and music director at St. Joan of Arc Church in Orleans.

All Little Theater concerts are free and open to all; this one is made possible in part by a grant from the Wayland Cultural Council.

Many concert-goers will be visiting the new High School for the first time. The final configuration of parking and pedestrian access will not be in place until the end of this summer, when demolition and landscaping will have been completed. For the remainder of this season, concert-goers can park in the High School’s student lot, the first lot they will encounter after entering the High School property. They will walk toward the new buildings, keeping the construction fence on their right. The Main Stage is in the new North building, which will be on the right. (Click on the HS image at the left for a larger view)

The TV give-away was the grand prize from the survey WayCAM conducted at Special Town Meeting, and that ran until the end of November. Town meeting attendees and many other town residents were invited to complete a survey about WayCAM’s performance and ways that WayCAM could improve its services to the Wayland community. Over 375 people participated, and the lucky winner of the TV was Ann Knight, who many of you know is Director of the Wayland Free Public Library. Ann’s name was randomly drawn at the WBA’s annual Holiday Party in December.

Ann is pictured here with Ken Isaacson, president of WayCAM (left), and Michael Abend, president of the Wayland Business Association. The presentation was made at WayCAM’s new studios, which are located, as of December 24th, on the new Wayland High School site, adjacent to the Field House. With the new site, WayCAM is much more than a TV station. WayCAM is transforming into a state-of-the-art Community Media Center, a resource for the whole town. A variety of courses in TV, video and studio production will be provided to the adult community, in addition to the classes presently provided by WayCAM to more than 100 Wayland students each year. WayCAM will be holding a community-wide Open House in Spring 2012, to introduce its new facilities and course offerings. Interested residents of all ages and backgrounds should contact Jim Mullane, Executive Director, at (508) 358-5006, email: jim@waycam.tv .
