Award Winning artist offers free pastel workshop at Council on Aging, March 31

The Wayland Council On Aging is hosting a free pastel painting class by award winning artist, Gregory Maichack. The workshop, scheduled for Wed., Mar. 31, 1-3pm at the COA in the Wayland Town Building is entitled: “Van Gogh’s Starry Night: How to Pastel Paint Expressively”. Beginners as well as experienced artists will enjoy working with the professional grade pastels and papers at this free event.
 
Artist Gregory Maichack lives in western Holyoke. He is a portraitist and painter working primarily in pastels. Winner of the Award of Merit from the Bennington Center for the Arts: Impressions of New England Show 2003, he was awarded the Savoir-faire Pastel Award from the Great Lakes Pastel Society. Maichack is also a faculty member of the Springfield Museum Studio School.
 
Gregory Maichack will individually demonstrate the essentials of painting with pastels. His techniques demonstration will explore edges, scumbling, blending, slurring, and layering as well as tips on creating impact as participants create their own “Starry Night”.  Maichack will display his original pastel artwork and discuss Post Impressionist concepts. This is the second workshop that the artist has presented at the Wayland COA. Participants have appreciated Greg Maichack’s encouraging, positive and constructive input. Seating is limited for this free workshop so pre-registration is required. All materials will be provided. Call the COA office at 508 358 2990 to make a reservation. Non-senior adults may also register if space permits. This project is supported in part by a grant from the Wayland Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
