Wayland Cultural Council: Call for Volunteers

The Wayland Cultural Council (WCC) is seeking new members who want to join a group which supports cultural projects that benefit Wayland.  The WCC distributes state funds (through mini-grants) to individuals and organizations that present important community cultural projects.  Members will have the opportunity to be a positive force in the local and regional cultural scene.  Individuals with an interest or background in the arts, humanities, or interpretive sciences are encouraged to join.  All new members receive online training, and the time commitment is small- the council meets about 6 times a year to solicit and review grant proposals, award funds and conduct council business.

In addition to allocating these grants, The WCC organizes the small Gallery in Wayland Town Building.  Each year, we try to present a mixture of cultural exhibits, including one by ArtsWayland, and displays by Wayland school students, individual artists, and other commissions and community groups.

The Wayland Cultural Council is part of the Local Cultural Council Program (LCC) that is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency that promotes excellence, access, education and diversity in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences to improve and contribute to the economic vitality of our communities.  MCC receives an annual appropriation from the MA State Legislature, the National Endowment for the Arts, and others.  In turn, MCC makes thousands of grants directly to the non-profit LCC Program which is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, humanities, and sciences annually.  For more information, go to www.mass-culture.org.
