LUNCH and JIVE – a “Pops” style picnic with the Shane Wood Jazz Trio, Wednesday, JUNE 16, Noon at the Wayland COA
Keyboard, saxophone and drums make up the trio. Combine that with some excellent vocals, a gourmet boxed lunch (or bring your own lunch) and you’ll get “Lunch and Jive.”  The concert is free (made possible by a grant from the Wayland Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Masaschusetts Cultural Council, a state agency). Pre-registration is required due to limited seating. Complimentary beverage will be served. Guests are welcome to bring their own lunch or to pre-order our “Pops” Boxed Lunch ($5). Box lunch orders must be made by JUNE 11. Our “Pops” boxed lunch includes a choice of roll-up sandwich (chicken salad, seafood salad or turkey), chips, pickle, cookie and a chocolate dipped strawberry.   Call the COA (508 358 2990) for reservations.

ZUMBA
Wednesdays, 2-3pm, Town Building Gym, $4/class (wear rubber soled shoes, bring water bottle)  (The last class before summer break is June 16, 2010. Zumba will resume in September.)
Zumba” eliminates the “work” from “working out”. It combines irresistible Latin and international music with dynamic, yet simple exercise moves. The extraordinary secret behind Zumba is how it magically motivates the body to efficiently burn calories, effectively tones all muscle groups, incorporates full range of motion and improves the cardiovascular system.   The moves transition easily with the fabulous rhythms of salsa, merengue, samba, flamenco, reggae and more! HERE’S THE BEST NEWS: Whether you are a natural dancer or you think you have two left feet, you will enjoy this class taught by CEIL SHARON, a professional choreographer and dance school owner. She is a senior herself and a Zumba Gold certified instructor. (Zumba is back after a brief hiatus due to flooding and lack of available space. Class has resumed in the gym. This class is well worth checking out. Pay only when you attend. ($4/class
 
TAI CHI for Stress Reduction. Wednesday, 10:30am-11:30am, Hearing Room
If not pre-registered for this class, the cost is $8.00/class (If you’re starting mid-month, attendees will be pro-rated to end of month ($5/class). Learn to use the Tai Chi form to increase your physical balance and "sense" of balance. Tai Chi allows you to physically, mentally and emotionally feel YOUR flow aligning with the flow of nature. The class begins with music and meditation, some Qi Qong breathing techniques, Temple exercises for flexible joints and strength, then the Tai Chi form itself. Class adapts to the participant’s individual needs.  Tai Chi can lower blood pressure, improve balance and reduce pain. (Pre-registration for June is $25 -5 Wednesdays). Individual classes are $8.00 if not pre-registered.. Should you decide to join the class and pre-pay for the month, your class fee will be pro-rated at $5/class

LOIS’ FIT FOR THE FUTURE   Every Tuesday & Thursday, 10—11am, Hearing Room. $2.00/class. Lois Leav, Instructor. Stretching, toning, aerobic fitness and weight work done to music. This class adapts to all fitness levels. Exercises can be modified to meet individual needs. Pay only when you come. This is enjoyable way to exercise and meet new people. No pre-registration required.

COA TRAVEL UPDATE: Only limited openings remaining on the Tanglewood and Baltimore trips. If you are considering these travel opportunities, please call as soon as possible.

Emily Blunt shines as Victoria in the 1hr. 45 minute royal portrait with eye popping recreations of life and the ritual at the English Court.

Door to door, shared van service is provided to Wayland residents 65 years of age or older, disabled of any age, or Wayland residents 60-65years of age who have used Wayland COA van service in the past year. Pre-registration is required. Call MWRTA for further information on contact the Wayland COA. BOSTON SERVICE (including Jamaica Plain VA Hospital) is now available for rides to medical appointments only-$5.00 each way. IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONCERNING THE MWRTA “DIAL A RIDE” AND THE MWRTA FIXED BUS ROUTE:
 ► MWRTA “Dial-A-Ride”.  Effective May 1, Dial-A-Ride is a “cashless debit system”- prepaid rides. Call the MWRTA “Dial-A-Ride” at 508-820-4650. Pre-registration is required for all riders.  Determine the frequency of your trips and fund your trip account with the MWRTA. Your account will be charged at the time your ride is provided. Call the MWRTA for further information. Accounts may be funded by personal check or credit card. Customers must maintain a positive balance in their fare account to book trips.

►MWRTA FIXED ROUTE BUS.  The MWRTA fixed route bus is for anyone, any age (certain restrictions apply). This is a fixed route looping bus. It stops at various points on Rte. 30, Rte. 9 and Rte. 27. Call Customer Service (508-935-2222) at the MWRTA for additional information and times. This is NOT a prepaid cashless system like Dial-A-Ride above. Riders must have exact fare when they board (for adults 65yr+ fare is .75/ride, adults under 65yr fare is $1.50/ride). This is a “flag down” bus at the Cochituate Ball Field (intersection of West Plain St and Pemberton Rd).           
 
For information about FISH (Friends in Service Helping), a volunteer group providing rides to medical appointments when no other options are available, please contact the Wayland Council On Aging (508 358 2990).
 
MEDICAL TAXI VOUCHER SERVICE. Pre-purchased vouchers ($15 for $25 worth of meter taxi time may be purchased by Wayland seniors at the COA. Vouchers are good for trips to medical appointments only. Medical Taxi Voucher service is provided by JFK Transportation in Natick (508 653 4500)
 
COA VAN. The COA van has a limited number of seats, so call the COA early to reserve a spot. Unless otherwise indicated, the van driver will pick up/drop off people at their homes for all trips. (The following free trips are sponsored by the COA – not MWRTA. Call the COA to make your reservation.
