Preview of the September 7 Board of Selectmen Meeting

The next meeting of the Board of Selectmen will be held on Tuesday, September 7 in Town Building.   Selectmen will hear a series of presentations on some ongoing initiatives.

At 7:15 p.m., Energy Initiatives Advisory Committee co-chair Anne Harris will share an update on the progress made toward achieving the five benchmarks required to earn designation as a Green Community.  She will also review the proposed stretch energy code and seek co-sponsorship of submission of an article on the November Special Town Meeting Warrant.

At approximately 7:40 p.m., Betsy Connolly will discuss the work of the Independent Living Task Force, a non-profit organization working to assist seniors in transition status with regard to health, living, and residential issues.  Ms. Connolly also serves as the selectmen’s representative on the Master Plan Advisory Committee.  That group is circulating a draft report containing recommendations and suggestions for modification to the conclusions of the 2004 Master Plan.  At 8:00 p.m., selectmen will hear a presentation of the findings and provide feedback to the committee.

Immediately following the discussion of the Master Plan Advisory Committee report, selectmen will discuss potential topics and format of the State of the Town meeting tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, September 29.   Among the suggestions is a discussion of community characteristics and values, such as “semi-rural character” and “economic development in keeping with our semi-rural character”.  Defining these concepts is an idea put forth by the committee.

After considering the consent calendar, reviewing correspondence, and discussing agenda items for future meetings, the Board will review the schedule for the fall Special Town Meeting and review projected topics for Warrant articles.  Later, selectmen will continue discussion on objectives and strategies for the year beginning October 1, 2010 and ending September 30, 2011.  Lastly, the Board will vote to open the Warrant for the Special Town Meeting scheduled for November 16 (and 18, if necessary) and consider the proposed intertown agreement for transfer station services with the Town of Sudbury.

The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room.
