WBSA Major League All Star Results American League Edges National League 11-7

Cochituate Ball Field – Saturday June 11

The night started out on a positive note as the rain was holding off and a wonderful rendition of the National Anthem sung by HS Junior Anna Sharry.

The National League jumped out to an early lead sending 9 batters and scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning. But the American League fought back with strong relief pitching, timely defense and key hits.

Strong defense was evident throughout the night as the National League gunned down 2 runners at the plate in the top of the first, with catcher Scotty McCarthy applying the tag. Jacob Warner made a great diving catch of a foul ball off the bat of Jack Fletcher, while a heads up Jack Donnelly tagged up from 3rd base to score. Drew O’Regan made a running catch in center field robbing Sean Devlin of extra bases.

Ryan Tapply looked sharp on the rubber. Tapply held National League All Stars hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three. He made a big defensive play in the bottom of the sixth, stabbing a hard line drive off the bat of Scott McCarthy and throwing to Christian Boschetto at third to double up the runner for the final out of the game.

Kyle Wolf went 3-3 at the plate for the National League All Stars. Bobby Murray, Jack Donnelly, Scott McCarthy, Matt Cronin and Nick Verdi had hits for the National League. And Ben Bourget contributed a strong inning of relief for the National League. The National League had some strong defensive efforts by Peter Moore, Nick Faye and Lucas Fried.

Blase Cormier had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. Cormier doubled in the first and third innings.

Charlie Sharton, Derek Bonner, Tony Park, Cormier and Jack Perryman helped lead American League All Stars with multi hit games, while Andrew Dennis, Joseph Loconzolo, Christian Boschetto and Sam Levy all had timely hits.

Five relief pitchers finished off the game for American League All Stars. Cormier faced four batters in relief, while Perryman managed to record three outs to aid the victory.

The sky opened up in the top of the 4th but it didn’t impact the fun and enthusiasm from the kids.
