News and Events from the Wayland Library

LIBRARY SERVICES IN AUGUST.  During the summer we are open on Saturdays from 10-1, closed Sundays and open regular hours on weekdays. During the last three weeks of August the library will undergo some planned maintenance on the upper levels. The carpet on the main floor will be replaced, the damaged plaster on ceilings will be repaired, and the whole upstairs will get a fresh coat of paint. The library will be completely closed on Friday, August 12, and Saturday, August 13, to allow the staff to relocate upstairs operations to the Raytheon Room. The library will re-open on Monday, August 15, with limited services for adults in the Raytheon Room but full service in the Youth Services Department.

FUN BOOK FACTS
  • Last week the two most requested books in the Minuteman Library Network were State of Wonder by Ann Patchett and Bossypants by Tina Fey.
  • Did you know that when Kathryn Stockett tried to get an agent for The Help, she received 45 rejections before finding a publisher willing to take a chance on it? Now it’s set to debut as a major motion picture in August. Check out the book from the library before you head to the theater.
  • Gone with the Wind was published 75 years ago. A special 75th anniversary edition of Margaret Mitchell's sweeping Civil War story has just been released by Scribner with a preface by Pat Conroy.
  • …and this month marks the 80th anniversary of the internationally beloved children's book character Babar!

GET CAUGHT READING!  Our lower level display case features an exhibit of paintings and photographs of people reading in many locations. Do you have a great photo of you or a family member reading? If so, drop it off at our display case as we’re planning another display of local people reading.

NEEDLEWORK GROUP.  We expect that our needlework group will resume meeting on Thursday, October 13, at 10am. It’s a group for quilters, decorative sewers, and knitters to socialize, work on hand projects (no machines), share ideas, and explore resources.

FARMER'S MARKET STORYTIMES.  Wednesdays in August from 2:30-3 p.m. kids can join Youth Services Librarian April Mazza for songs and stories at Russell's Farmer's Market. All ages welcome.
