Wayland Town Crier 2/24/12: PHOTOS: Wayland fire chief goes back in time for last day of duty. In keeping with a Wayland Fire Department tradition, retiring Wayland Fire Chief Robert Loomer got a ride to his home in Clinton aboard retired Wayland Engine 5 on his last day of duty Friday. Fire chiefs from throughout MetroWest, as well as current retired Wayland firefighters, attended a retirement party Friday in honor of Loomer, who was as a firefighter in Maynard for almost 30 years before becoming chief in Wayland in 2003. Previous retiring Wayland chiefs and other firefighters have also taken the final ride home from duty aboard the 1953 Wayland Engine 5.
