New STEM program coming to Wayland. CSI: MetroWest

Jr. Tech of Cape Cod expands STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education to Greater Boston families with CSI: MetroWest workshop. Jr. Tech is introducing their first STEM workshop west of Boston with CSI:MetroWest for 5th-7th grade students.  The 6.5 hour, Massachusetts Curriculum Standards-based program will be held on Saturday, May 12th from 9:00 – 3:30 at Peace Lutheran Church, 107 Concord Road [Rte 126], Wayland.

In this hands-on STEM workshop, students will learn the steps and tools used by crime scene investigators to solve crimes.  Through simulated role-playing, the young investigators will listen and learn about the details of a mock crime scene, collect evidence and samples, and analyze the collected evidence.   Eight lab stations will help the students solve the crime and include fingerprint and hair analysis, DNA testing, fabric and dry-material testing, and more.  “For years MetroWest families who summer on Cape Cod have been asking us to bring our high-quality, hands-on workshops to the Boston area,” says Phyllis Russell, President and Executive Director of Junior Tech.  “I’m thrilled that we are starting our expansion with one of our most popular programs.”

The STEM discipline skills exercised in CSI: MetroWest include Forensic Science, Clinical Lab Science, Mathematics, Critical Thinking, and Communicating Solutions.  Program fee is $195.  Registration is on-line at www.juniortech.org.
