Wayland High School Theatre Ensemble presents Fame – The Musical, Wednesday-Saturday, April 25-28

Put aside all of your hard work on Wednesday, April 25 at 7:30pm  at Wayland High School’s Mainstage when the Wayland High School Theatre Ensemble (“WHSTE”) makes magic in Fame – The Musical. Produced and performed by an ensemble cast and crew of over thirty members, the cast presents an energetic and inspiring story of a group of students who come together from different backgrounds to spend four years persevering through the combination of academic and artistic education that made up the curriculum of New York City’s High School of the Performing Arts in the early 1980’s. Under the direction of Richard Weingartner, who also serves as the school’s drama teacher, the WHSTE performance of Fame – The Musical

emotionally demonstrates the effect the journey through the High School of the Performing Arts had on the difficult choices made by the young people who followed that path.

With so many talented actors making up WHSTE, Stage Managers Kate Fiske and Kush Bhagat, along with Weingartner and Musical Director Arthur Finstein, chose Fame – The Musical because it showcases the talents of the entire ensemble cast rather than focusing only on one or a few main characters. Fiske and Bhagat also considered that Fame – The Musical would present a story about the challenges faced by art students in a high school that would be relevant to the cast.

Fame – The Musical is the first musical production that WHSTE will perform at the Mainstage of the newly constructed Wayland High School. Fiske and Bhagat are excited about the opportunities the Mainstage presents for both the WHSTE members and the audience. As compared to the Little Theatre, where WHSTE had previously presented all of its performances, the Mainstage, with its larger size and updated technology, provides the cast and crew with more options in set design, blocking of the performance, and lighting effects. Audience members will appreciate these enhancements to the production as well as the expanded seating capacity that will ensure everyone a seat with an excellent view to enjoy this exciting show.

Fame – The Musical will be performed on Wednesday, April 25 through Saturday, April 28, at 7:30 PM at the Wayland High School Mainstage. Tickets: $12 adults; $8 (students and senior citizens) may be purchased at the door. Reserve tickets in advance by sending an email to: events@whsarts.com
