League of Women Voters hosts discussion of Concentration Camp History

The League of Women Voters of Wayland is inviting the public to its annual meeting on Tuesday, May 8, at 7:30 PM in the lecture room (small amphitheater) in the high school (second floor, next to the library).  The speaker will be Wayland High School social studies teacher Kevin Delaney, who will share his exciting discoveries about "Lt Col. Martin W. Joyce, Liberator of Dachau".  As Delaney says “I made an amazing find while cleaning out the old history book room prior to the move [into the new high school building].  In the piles of old stuff was a briefcase filled with the entire collection of Lt. Col. Martin W. Joyce, who was in the 7th Army that liberated Dachau concentration camp.  He was appointed Commander of the camp the day after its liberation, and there are about 1000 pages of Dachau records and personal items related to his time there.  For anyone with even a passing interest in history, it's a fascinating collection—letters from survivors crediting Joyce with saving 32,000 prisoners, hospital records, photos… MY [United States History] classes are using them to write his e-biography etc.”

The LWV will hold its business meeting after Mr. Delaney’s talk.  Refreshments will be available before and after the talk.
