Join walk through Historic District of Wayland on Sunday

Wayland Town Crier 9/27/12: Join walk through Historic District of Wayland on Sunday. Join us on Sunday, Sept. 30 for a walk through the Historic District of Wayland. Gretchen Schuler will lead this tour, which is co-sponsored by the Wayland Historical Society and the Wayland Historic District Commission. The tour will begin at the Grout-Heard House Museum at 12 Cochituate Road, Wayland, at 2pm.

Wayland is fortunate to be the home of so many buildings of historical interest. Do you know which building is the oldest in the Historic District? Have you seen the recently renovated Freight House?

Schuler will discuss the late 18th- and early 19th-century development of East Sudbury around the iconic meetinghouse, and the effect of the opening of the 1881 Mass. Central Railroad on commerce and home construction at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Describing this area as “quaint” would be a major understatement!

The walking tour will be replaced with a slide show in the event of inclement weather. Refreshments will be provided by Barbara MacDowell.
